Single terminal, compact and easy to navigate. Security checkpoint on the upper departures level. Baggage claim and all ground transportation on the lower arrivals level. BOI Upgrade project underway — new Concourse A, new Consolidated Rent-A-Car Center (ConRAC), and expanded facilities expected through 2026–2027.

All rental car counters are on the first floor by baggage claim. Pick-up lot is outside the terminal, west of baggage claim — walk through the baggage carousel area to the exit. New ConRAC facility expected Fall 2026 will consolidate everything in a single garage with direct pedestrian walkway. Companies: Hertz, Avis, Budget, National, Enterprise, Alamo. 42 Miles · Highway 21 · One Road the Entire Way

The Drive — BOI to the Ranch

Highway 21 — the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway — begins at Gowen Road, which runs along the south perimeter of the airport. You exit BOI, turn onto Gowen Road heading east, and you are already on the road that goes directly to the ranch. No highway interchanges to navigate. No complicated routing. One road, 42 miles, 40 minutes in good conditions. The drive is beautiful from the first mile.

Exit Boise Airport

From the terminal, follow Airport Way to Gowen Road. Turn left (east) on Gowen Road. This road runs along the south perimeter of the airport — you'll see the runways to your left. Gowen Road becomes State Highway 21 within the first mile. You're already on the byway.

Boise River Canyon · Miles 3–15

The highway descends to cross the Boise River, then follows the north bank upstream through a basalt canyon. You pass the Boise River Diversion Dam (1909) and within a few miles the Lucky Peak Dam (1955). Lucky Peak State Park offers swimming and boating if you want to stop. Spring brings elk and deer herds to the hillsides in numbers that stop cars on the road.

Enter the Forest · Mile ~18

Around mile 18 the highway enters the Boise National Forest. Sagebrush steppe transitions to dense Ponderosa pine in less than a mile — one of the most dramatic landscape shifts in Idaho. From here the road narrows, the canopy closes in, and the temperature drops. You are in the mountains now.

Idaho City · Mile ~38

You'll pass through the historic downtown of Idaho City — the largest city in the Pacific Northwest in 1864, now a living museum of 500 people. The Boise Basin Museum, Masonic Temple, and Boot Hill Cemetery are all visible from Main Street. Stock up on gas here if heading further north. The Springs hot springs is on the left just before downtown.

Majestic Mountain Ranch · Mile ~39

One mile south of downtown Idaho City on Highway 21, look for Lodgepole Lane on your right (east side of the highway). The ranch entrance is signed. GPS: 43.8186° N, 115.8541° W · 9 Lodgepole Ln, Idaho City, ID 83631. If you pass The Springs hot springs heading north, you've gone about 100 yards too far — Lodgepole Lane is immediately after.

Two public-use airstrips serve the Idaho City corridor directly — one a USFS gravel strip 1 mile from historic downtown Idaho City, the other a grass strip in Garden Valley approximately 30 miles from the ranch. Both are unattended, have no FBOs, and require current mountain flying experience and thorough preflight planning. Idaho manages over 30 backcountry airstrips through its Division of Aeronautics — these two are the closest to Majestic Mountain Ranch.

The ranch is on the right (east) side of Highway 21, one mile south of historic Idaho City. GPS coordinates 43.8186° N, 115.8541° W will get you there directly. Look for Lodgepole Lane — the entrance is signed off the highway. If you hit The Springs hot springs heading north, you've gone just past it.
